Each listing gives general information about a particular time period of Shadow World and the impact of the events that took place. The information does not give listings of dates with each and every major event, but does give an overall view of what took place that helped shape the world. Below is a listing of terms that are crucial to the understanding of the history.

TIME PERIODS

First Era: The time period from the beginning of civilization until the downfall of the Empire of the "old race".
Long Night: The time period between the First and Second Eras when Kulthea was essentially an uncivilized wasteland.
Second Era: The time period from the dawn of the College of the Loremasters until the start of the Wars of Dominion.
Wars of Dominion: The conflict between the minions of the Unlife and the free peoples of Kulthea.
Third Era: Time period from the end of the Wars of Dominion to the present.

OTHER TERMS

Andraax: One of the three founders of the Order of Loremasters. Andraax is a renowned philosopher and historian, having penned numberless tomes chronicling the early ages of the world.
Eidolon: Legendary sky city located in northern Emer, above the isle of Sel-kai.
Emer: The largest continent on the western hemisphere.
Kadæna: Last ruler of the Empire of the “old race”, foe of Ûtha and was slain at the end of the First Era.
Loremasters: Sages that gather and disseminate knowledge for the advancement of civilization.
Old Race: A name used to refer to men and women imbued with great power over essænce. They no longer exist, having destroyed themselves in a civil war.
Ordainer - Demigods who serve those who feed their appetite for death and destruction. They are often more than three times a man’s height, and though manlike in form, they have rough, leathery hide, a dangerous prehensile tail and huge membranous wings. Their limbs are short and powerful, their heads unspeakably awful fanged, horned visages.
Unlife: The enemy of life and an evil force whose source is unknown. Acting always through minions, it seeks only the destruction of all life.
Ûtha: An “old race” male warrior, foe of Kadæna and disappeared at the end of the First Era.
